A middle aged bodaboda man has escaped death by a whisker in a nasty road accident along Kangundo-Nairobi highway. Residents of Kaumoni area known to be a notorious blackspot are still reeling in shock after the unidentified man was sandwiched between two Nissan matatus.

One matatu belonging to KAM Sacco was headed to Kangundo from Nairobi while the other one belonging to EBTL Sacco was picking up a passenger by the roadside when the man on the motorbike tried to overtake it. In the blink of an eye, the stationary matatu attempted to get back on the road, and together with the oncoming one they smashed the bodaboda rider in between, completely amputating his right leg.

The motorbike immediately caught fire. Confirming the incident, Matungulu OCPD Joshua Lutukai has asked matatus to pick and drop passangers at the designated stages. “Matatus should observe traffic rules all the time, especially use of indicators,” Mr Lutukai said.

The OCPD has also asked motorbike riders to be careful while on the road. “This man was overspeeding and perhaps this would not have happened had he been on the right speed,” he said. The injured man has been taken to Kangundo Level 4 Hospital.
