Police in Trans Nzoia on Wednesday arrested three people suspected of importing unlicensed sugar.
Administration Police officers manning the Suam border point along the Uganda border arrested the suspects and detained a lorry containing 200 bags of the sugar, according to Trans Nzoia County AP commander Nicholas Ayoko.
“This is cheap sugar from Uganda, but the suspects were packaging in Butali and Nzoia sugar bags with the aim of reselling at cheaper prices,” said Ayoko.
He named those arrested as the lorry driver Henry Kuko and the packagers Yohana Masibo and Dan Mwangi.
The three will be charged in court with illegally importing goods and evading the payment of taxes to Kenya Revenue Authority.
