The Jubilee Party failed to name its 77 interim officials at its extraordinary meeting at the Bomas of Kenya today. The meeting that brought together all leaders of the defunct political parties that merged into Jubilee was noted for the angry tone of its speakers. President Uhuru Kenyatta addressed the gathering in angry tones, often throwing hands up in frustration as he called opposition leader Raila Odinga names.
The president called Mr Odinga "mad", "petty", among other negative terminologies and said in Kiswahili that the opposition "aendelee na matope yake na magazeti yake" (should continue to talk shit in the newspapers) while he and Jubilee leaders play in "uwanja wa maendeleo" (the game of development).
Turning to the Muranga Water Tunnel that Mr Odinga recently warned could trigger desertification in the Tana River Basin, the president said the project had been launched when the former was Prime Minister, but now he was using it to win votes in Murang'a but haiwezekani (he won't succeed)".
He also said, "Lakini mganga hawezi kuona haya.. yake ni vile ataincite wananchi ili wakasirike, si kuwapea suluhu, kwa sababu hiyo ndio siasa yake (a witch doctor has no shame... all he wants is to cause citizens to be angry, not to give them solutions, because that is his style of politics").
