CORD planning mass action against Jubilee over corruption

"One of them grew up lacking nothing, therefore he cannot believe that the looting is going on. He is totally blind to it. The other is the rogue peasant’s child, who is determined to become super rich without any regard to societal values and principles," the senator said.

The Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) today called on Kenyans to street protests against corruption under watch of President Kenyatta and his deputy which the opposition claimed had seen the taxpayer lose more than Sh1.0 trillion ($10 billion) since the current government came to power in 2013. CORD co-chair and Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama dismissed the investigations being undertaken by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission detectives, terming them a cover-up to protect the suspects who are senior in government.

Mr Muthama said Kenyans should no longer watch as the resources budgeted for the nation's development went to waste. "We must go to the streets and protest the looting. This is our country. The investigations are only cover-up. Nobody is determined to catch anybody because nobody can dare the two big fish”, he said at a press conference at his private office in Gigiri, Nairobi. He was addressing revelations that the government could have lost up to Sh5 billion through a scandal of fictitious payments for goods and services at the Ministry of Health.

The senator said CORD is "extremely distressed by the outright theft of taxpayers’ money" within the Jubilee government, saying that "the government does not give a damn about the poor, the orphaned, destitute and the widows. The unapologetic top leadership does not feel any remorse or embarrassment and they always come out to justify this fleecing or to deny it even occurred. They do not appreciate the importance of the positions they hold, they think it is personal property and entitlement.”

In an apparent reference to President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto, the senator said neither appreciated the significance of public service delivery and hence the sky-rocketing corruption. "One of them grew up lacking nothing, therefore he cannot believe that the looting is going on. He is totally blind to it, we cannot blame him. The other is the rogue peasant’s child, who is determined to become super rich without any regard to societal values and principles. For him, this journey which he set off on years ago will make him a successful man, no matter what people say."

Below is the CORD statement as delivered by Mr Muthama.

CORD STATEMENT ON THEFT OF 5 BILLION SHILLINGS AT MINISTRY OF HEALTH.

Dear Kenyans,

CORD is extremely distressed by the outright theft which has been happening within the jubilee govt. This Gvt doesn't give a damn about the poor, the orphaned, destitute and the widows. The unapologetic top leadership DOES NOT FEEL ANY REMORSE or EMBARASSMENT and they always come out to justify this fleecing or to deny it even occurred. They do not appreciate the importance of the positions they hold, They think it is PERSONAL PROPERTY and ENTITLEMENT.

But this is understandable if you care to think about it. One of them grew up lacking nothing. Therefore, he cannot believe that the looting is going on. He is totally blind to it.  WE CANNOT BLAME HIM. The other is the ROQUE PEASANT'S CHILD, who is determined to become super rich without any regard to societal value and principals. For him, this journey which he set off yrs ago will make him a successful man, no matter what people say.
