Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper Party today released its nomination schedule covering areas NASA affiliate parties were expected to conduct joint primaries. The move is informed by Raila Odinga’s ODM which yesterday issued direct nominations to governors, senators, women representatives and Members of Parliament in areas where the opposition outfit was supposed to hold joint nominations.
ODM gave 427 aspirants direct nomination certificates at Bomas of Kenya, Nairobi. Today, the Wiper Party, according to a notice issued by National Election Board (NEB), will begin its nomination exercise on Saturday 15 April covering upcountry zones, some seen as strongholds of other NASA parties.
The areas include Garissa, Wajir, Kakamega, Kitale, Bungoma, Kisii, Nyamira, Homa Bay and Migori. Others are Kisumu, Turkana, Isiolo, Meru, Embu, Murang’a, Kiambu, Nakuru, Kajiado and others. NEB also revised the primaries for the Lower Eastern region to have them conducted in Machakos and Makueni on April 21, while Kitui County will have its nomination on April 24. The earlier program had indicated the three Counties were scheduled to hold primaries on April 24.
Primaries in Nairobi County will be done on April 23 while those in the Coastal region covering Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, Lamu, Taita Taveta, Tana River on April 18. “The board wishes to apologize for any inconvenience this notice might cause and urges all the aspirants to henceforth take note of the revised dates” said a press release by Wiper NEB chairperson Agatha Solitei.
Wiper Secretary General and Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar is expected to be nominated unopposed after his rival and Nyali MP Hezron Awiti ditched the party. Today he has joined Vibrant Democratic Party.
