Hundreds of aspirants vying on former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper Democratic Movement made a last minute rush to meet today’s deadline for submission of nomination papers. A spot check by this website found Wiper House busy as candidates made their final rush to submit the papers.
Early in the morning, party executive director Dr Jared Siso released an urgent notification to the aspirants who had not submitted their forms to do so before the close of business today. “Attention to all Wiper aspirants 2017…..this is to remind you that the deadline for submission of your nomination papers expires today. If you haven’t yet presented your papers, please do so by close of business today at Wiper house”, the notice said in part.
Dr Siso said the party’s National Election Board (NEB) staff had made all the necessary arrangements to deal with the expected rush to beat the deadline. On February 10th, NEB through a notice extended the submission of the nomination papers to today. “The National Elections Board hereby notifies the general public and members of the party that the deadline for receiving applications, in prescribed forms, for positions of President, Governors, Members of the Senate, Members of the National Assembly, Members of the County Assembly and Women Representative in the National Assembly has been extended to 1 March 2017 due to public demand," the NEB notice said in part.
By 3pm this evening, aspirants for the various seats were trooping to the party headquarters, and there was likelihood the process could be extended by at least a few more days to give those who might be locked out by the end of business today to make their applications.
