Dr Victor Kioko Munyaka has made history as a Member of Parliament to have broken record to serve Machakos Town Constituency for more than one term. He is serving his second term and would be on the race defending his seat for a third term, and whether he wins or not will be decided in an electorate getting tight by the day.

The MP, who was elected on the Chama Cha Uzalendo ticket, has switched his allegiance to President Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party, despite former President Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper party perceived as the popular party of the area. Dr Munyaka is the regional coordinator of Jubilee in Machakos County and whether this will be advantageous to him in reclaiming his seat can’t be ruled out.

In 2013 Dr Munyaka trounced Wiper candidate and former Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) National treasurer) Urbanus Mutisya, after ditching the party to CCU following flawed Wiper party primaries. He however used Mr Musyoka’s name since CCU was under Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) that enabled him to recapture the seat.

This time, things could be different and the man to watch is Mutisya expected to win the Wiper nomination. Before he joined politics Dr Munyaka was a successful businessman who operated an agrovet store in Machakos Town bearing the name Ngelani Agrochemicals Ltd. He is a well-trained veterinarian.

Dr Munyaka has turned out to be one of the biggest opponents of Mr Musyoka's and this began as soon as he failed to secure the ticket during nominations of Wiper party in 2013. He urged Governor Mutua to quit Wiper party several times. “I urge Governor Mutua to quit this Wiper party, a party that has run short of ideas and only targets its members championing development for the people,” Dr Munyaka said.

Despite the work he has done through Constituency Development Fund (CDF) for the people of Machakos Town such as Mung’ala, Kasaini borehole projects, among other developments, there are other aspirants who have also declared interest to oust him from the seat. They include Eric Muthama who has chosen social media as his campaign tool. He usually posts a lot on his Facebook page concerning Machakos town constituency.

"Tonight my course for leadership stands out, my dream to work for my people shins bright, the zeal to do the best to alleviate poverty, champion for every kids education is unparalleled, the drive to maximum-ally and sustainably exploit our resources for the betterment of all of us is on high gear so help me GOD”, Mr Muthamas said in a recent Facebook post announcing his candidature.

Robert Mbithi Ndambuki (Bob Mbithi) from the renowned freedom fighter Muindi Mbingu’s family has also declared interest for the seat. He is a trained sales and marketing manager and he possesses a diploma in that field. Currently he is pursuing a bachelor degree in political science and economics in Germany. He has been in music industry since 2006 and has won or been nominated for several awards with his popular band ‘Generation Africa ya mavevi’. He has now decided to venture in politics after his long stay in Europe and wants to send Munyaka home.

“My late father is the youngest of Mbingu Ndavi Father of Freedom Fighter Muindi Mbingu, my uncle. Change is not only a mantra but it’s what I intend to bring through focused leadership, social policies for the benefit of Machakos Town constituency come 2017 and beyond. Having been privileged and blessed to learn and stay in some of the Most Developed Places on Earth, Germany and Scandinavian countries, I seek your support and Lets move forward together...GOD bless,” Bob Mbithi’s says.

Another aspirant for the seat is Daniel Mutinda who intends to vie on a Jubilee Party and face Dr Munyaka at the primaries. "To the people of Machakos Town, my message is simple: expect a world of love development and possibilities,” Mr Mutinda says.
