With the announcement of the joint opposition flag-bearer under the NASA coalition drawing nearer, top leaders in the opposition's ranks are watching the deteriorating relationship between ODM leader Raila Odinga and his Wiper Democratic Movement counterpart Kalonzo Musyoka. Not many are willing to speak openly about the increasing public display of two leaders' differences.
The exception is former deputy speaker of the National Assembly, Farah Maalim, who defected two months ago from Mr Odinga's ODM party into the Mr Musyoka-led WDM. The former MP has riled the Odinga camp this week with a series of Tweets promoting the presidential candidature of Mr Musyoka and which imply that Mr Odinga is an untrustworthy politician.
Mr Maalim’s obsequiousness towards Mr Musyoka contrasts sharply with his digs into Mr Odinga’s skin. One of his Tweets that's doing rounds on social media pages described Mr Musyoka as a calm politician unlike, obviously, Mr Odinga who excites rally-goers with empty "vitendawili".
"Granted SKM can't play soccer in a public rally or excite people with parables &vitendawili but has powerful integrity & public experience," he said in the Tweet.
Below are some of the Tweets.
Everybody in NASA has powerful credentials to lead Kenya. We have a minor internal democratic contest but whoever emerges gets 100% support.
Granted SKM can't play soccer in a public rally or excite people with parables &vitendawili but has powerful integrity & public experience.
We are fast assuming a culture that adores the cunning, cynical, selfish&opportunistic politicians. Integrity, fidelity, service etc losing out.
Anybody waiting to see Kalonzo Musyoka bolt from NASA will wait till hell freezes. Kalonzo is today a most astute & solid leader in NASA.
