Ruto reaches out to family of man killed by car in DP's convoy

Deputy President William Ruto is in touch with the family of the late Tirop Chekomoti from Moi's Bridge who was killed by a car in the DP’s convoy during his tour of Western Kenya on Tuesday. According to a family source, the DP has committed to compensate them for the loss of their breadwinner.

It is unclear whether the money to be paid to the family will come from the DP’s personal resources or from a government account. The government can cater for unavoidable expenditures from a contingency budget not earmarked for any specific programme, and the account has been used account to deal with unexpected expenditures.

A well-known trader at Moi's Bridge trading centre, the late Chekomoti owned a restaurant where the deputy president himself is alleged to have taken lunch some time in the past during one of his visits in the region, according to residents who briefed this online newspaper.
