Vihiga MP agonising over Sh5 million Jubilee cash

"The MP is being tormented by this money. In all fairness, he is very forthright to admit that he was paid the amount because many others from the region are known to have taken money for the same purposes and never declared it."

A first time MP from Vihiga County is having sleepless nights over whether to refund Sh5 million he was allegedly gifted by a top Jubilee official so that he would defect to the governing party. The money was meant for his grassroots operation, and more funds were to follow after his formal announcement of the defection.

The MP has intimated to close friends and associates that his constituents have rejected the Jubilee message and his association with the party. Whereas the MP previously supported charitable causes in the constituency, these days, one of his friends told this writer, residents openly reject his financial contributions for development initiatives, claiming the money is from Jubilee.

"The MP is being tormented by this money. In all fairness, he is very forthright to admit that he was paid the amount because many others from the region are known to have taken money for the same purposes and never declared it," said the source, who described a number of circumstances when the MP had raised the matter with his friends.
