The newly-launched Jubilee Party has taken control of the Trans Nzoia County Assembly following the election of new majority and minority leaders and addressed a constitutional crisis that had enveloped the assembly’s operations for two months. The merger of The National Alliance (TNA), United Republican Party (URP) and New Ford-Kenya has made the Jubilee Party the single largest bloc in the assembly with Ford-Kenya now the main opposition.
Accordingly, Jubilee’s Hospital Ward MCA Simon Toroitich has taken the post of majority leader and Sirende Ward MCA Alfred Weswa (Ford-Kenya) the leader of minority. Mr Weswa has taken over from Jubilee’s Hillary Kemei (MCA for Motosiet) who previously held the post on behalf of URP.
The assembly had been plunged into constitutional crisis following the Jubilee parties’ merger while its members claimed both minority and majority positions. While Ford Kenya had the most number of MCAs followed by URP and New Ford Kenya, the latter two had ganged up to claim both positions.
