A mentally ill woman from Kiganjo village in Murang’a County has been arrested after she allegedly killed her three-year old nephew over a loaf of bread. According to reports from the village, the woman had found the child and his brother, 5, sharing the loaf at their homestead on Friday.

The lady demanded the loaf and instead of negotiating with the kids for a share, went ahead to attack them. Neighbours who responded to the children’s screams rushed both victims to the Kiriaini Hospital from where they were referred to Mathari Hospital in Nyeri where the victim died. The older child is still admitted with his injuries.

“When I heard the boys screaming and rushed into the home, I found the children lying in a pool of blood,” said a neighbor who spoke to the Kenya Free Press. Neighbours had taken the boys to Kiriaini Hospital and thereafter called their grandmother who was out of the homestead by the time the incident took place.
