Musicians, producers and film makers can now film for free anywhere in Machakos,  Governor Alfred Mutua has announced. Speaking at Machakos People's Park during the launch of 'Machakos Fest', an annual film making competition,' Dr Mutua said the move was to promote the county as a tourism destination and nurture young people's talents in the music and film industry.  The function was organized by the county's  department of culture, tourism and sports.

"We have opened up all sites within Machakos and we encourage all musicians, producers and even film makers from Kenya and beyond to take advantage of this offer and record their productions free of charge," said Dr Mutua, who advised those in the film industry and newcomers planning to venture into the industry to approach it with a business mind.

Saying that film was crucial to socio-cultural and economic development of any society, the governor stressed that the expansion of digital television outlets in the country had created an adequate platform for upcoming artists to showcase and grow their potential.

Machawood Chief Executive Officer, Victor Muniafu, announced that entry forms for the competition were available on' Machakos Fest' Website and urged more people to register for the competition. "We will accept short locally produced films lasting for seven minutes to be submitted by December 4th," Mr Muniafu said.

The CEO said that the award ceremony would be held at Machakos People's Park on December 18th and the overall winner would go home with a cash prize of Sh1.2 million.
