Kitui Governor Julius Malombe on Monday sacked five senior officials for incompetence, corruption and unethical conduct.

All five officials had been suspended in December, when Malombe created a probe committee to investigate the officials’ conduct.

Four of the five – County Secretary Musyoka Nyamai, executive Member for Lands Paul Kioko, Culture Chief Officer Emma Kitemange and the acting Health Chief Officer Evans Mumo – were found to have been incompetent.

The fifth, Chief Officer for Treasury Grace Muimi, was not indicted by the committee which said it did not get sufficient evidence, but she was sacked by the governor alongside the four others on public interest.

According to the Governor, Nyamai was found to have engaged in corrupt, unethical and immoral practices including awarding contracts to relatives and publicly engaging in political activities while under interdiction.

Mumo was found to have been violent in the work place and engaged in corruption, while Kioko was found to have irregularly altered contracts to inflate costs and Kitemange was accused of disregarding rules governing her official mandate.
