The Nandi Agricultural show which coincides with the Nairobi International Trade Fair has been postponed indefinitely. The show which was scheduled for November 6th to 8th was called by the county executive committee member in the department, Ms Mary Ng’elechei.
However different stakeholders have reacted differently to the postponement with members of the business community and farmers from the county terming the move as an act of sabotage. Mr Sammy Seronei, the chairman of the Kenya Chamber of Commerce and Industry Nairobi County, said there were intrigues behind the cancellation noting that the county was long aware of the dates for the Nairobi Show.
“It’s unfortunate that our preparations since the beginning of the year is now going to waste which is uncalled for and the excuse being given over the cancelation is irrelevant,” Seronei protested, saying the reason given was "flimsy".
Nandi county government had previously placed various advertisements in the media announcing the date of the show in which the deputy president William Ruto was scheduled to open. Seronei claimed that the county government was failing the people of Nandi regretting that re-scheduling it to 2017, an election year, was wrong.
But the agriculture C.E.C said it wouldn't be possible to give another date citing Kitale and Kabarnet A.S.K shows which have already been booked while the other dates would fall within Mashujaa Day (October 20). Various exhibitors including Kenya Seed, ADC, Equity Bank had already erected their stands in readiness for the annual event.
