Nairobi college student, 22, commits suicide in Machakos

Neither the family and nor government officials could immediately identify what led the student to take his life.

A 22-year old college student on Tuesday morning committed suicide by hanging himself in Kibauni Location, Mwala Sub County in Machakos County. Neither the family and nor government officials could immediately identify what led the student to take his life.

According to area Chief Sebastian Ngungi, the young man, who is a student at a college in Nairobi, had been battling with epilepsy for a long time. The chief said the young man was lastly spotted around Kathiani Market which is located in Kibauni Location on Monday night. The deceased went missing thereafter, only for his body to be found hanging on a tree only a few metres from his home on Tuesday morning.

“Today I received a call that there was a body of a young man hanging on a tree. When we checked, we saw that it was the body of a young man who had been reported missing on Monday night. The young man has been in college in Nairobi and had been epileptic for a long time but investigations are underway to determine what led to him to take away his own life,” said Chief Ngungi.

Police took the body of the deceased to Machakos Level Five Hospital Mortuary while investigations are underway.
