Nakuru woman faces charge of neglecting children

Neighbours said that the woman is a re known drunkard and has been locking her children in the house at night. They said that she has not had a stable job and a man believed to be her husband is a boda boda operator who hardly assists her.

A 22 year old mother of has been arrested in Nakuru Town for neglecting her children at Karumaindo in Lake View Estate. Veronicah Njeri was arrested moments after returning home from a drinking spree when neighbours discovered that she had locked her two children in the house.

Neighbours said that the woman is a re known drunkard and has been locking her children in the house at night. They said that she has not had a stable job and a man believed to be her husband is a boda boda operator who hardly assists her.

Lake View Location chief George Nganga said that it had become a habit for women to neglect their children in the area, adding that he will be very tough on them. He said that the rescued children were living in unhygienic conditions and appeared malnourished.

In defense, the woman said that life had become too difficult for her and she opted to lock the children in order to find a way of getting money for their upkeep. Neighbours said that men in the area have become irresponsible with most of them failing to feed their families.

The woman was taken to Bondeni Police Station together with her children.
