Jubilee-fronted candidate for the Wajir County Speaker, Ibrahim Ahmed Yakub, was today overwhelmingly elected to the position. He garnered 44 out of the 48 votes. Governor Ambassador Mohamed Abdi Mohamud who was also elected on Jubilee ticket also attended and witnessed the exercise which included swearing in of the MCAs.
Mr Yakub was the preferred candidate and had earlier been named by the Eldas MP Adan Keynan. He holds LLB degree and takes over from the former speaker Bishar Omar who contested for MP Wajir East, but lost to Rashid Kasim Amin.
The Assembly held its first sitting today after the August 8 elections. The first assignment at the Wajir County Chamber was the swearing in of 30 elected and 18 nominated MCAs which began at 9am. Previously the Assembly had 30 elected and 15 nominated MCAs.
The Deputy Speaker’s post went to Mowlid Issack from Ademasajida Ward. Mr Mowlid who is certified accountant was a former employee of Wajir County and serve as senior finance officer in different departments. He previously worked in many organizations in finance sector and is accredited with good leadership.
The event was also graced by Mps Keynan, Ahmed Abdisalan (Wajir North), Rashid Kasim Amin Wajir East), Dr Omar (Wajir South), Ahmed Kolosh (Wajir West) and Ahmed Bashane Gacal (Tarbaj).
Soon after the exercise was completed Governori Mohamud with other leaders who included Senator Dr Abdullahi Kabreta held a joint press conference at Wajir Guest house and agreed to intensify campaigns for re-election of President Kenyatta during the October 17th 2017 repeat Presidential polls.
Mr Keynan who is the senior most Member of Parliament said President Kenyatta is a leader who can transform change, stating that Wajir being a Jubliee zone all the votes will go to him.
Ambassador Abdi who is also a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto promised to use all what is available to ensure that UhuRuto triumph during the presidential rerun.
Senator Dr Abdullahi who has remained an ally of President Kenyatta his political life and now captain of Jubilee Party in Wajir assured the president that the county will leave nothing to chance to ensure that he wins overwhelming. He said NASA’s flag bearer Raila Odinga had no place in the county.
They leaders were however emphatic in their call for a peaceful campaign period before the October 17 repeat polls.
