The Supreme Court ruling that nullified the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta in the August 8 elections was met by mixed reactions in Nakuru town. NASA supporters in Kaptembwa and Rhonda estates poured into the streets to celebrate the court decision.
While applauding the Supreme Court for the ruling, the residents said that the court had proved its independence, adding that IEBC should learn from the mistakes done and rectify where necessary.
Some of them said that the Court had proved to the world that Raila Odinga’s victory in the election had been stolen. While declaring that they were thirsty for change, the residents said that they are ready to come out in their numbers and reaffirm their coalition's victory in the fresh election to be conducted within two months.
Those Jubilee supporters interviewed said that the judicial determination was political adding that they are ready to vote again when the new election date will be announced. They called for restraint from Kenyans across the board and allow the electoral body to conduct fresh polls. While predicting that Uhuru will win the fresh election, the residents said that it is always wise to honor the decision of the court.
Meanwhile security remained high in most parts of Nakuru town with police patrolling major streets. Business activities however went on uninterrupted with those interviewed saying that they have been recording low sales since the elections were held.
