Wajir North Member of Parliament Ibrahim Abdi Saney is putting all campaign strategies in place to reclaim his seat on President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party after ditching ODM of NASA flag-bearer Raila Odinga.
Mr Saney is banking on his enviable scorecard in development through effective utilization of Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and his Ajuran clan which has shifted to the ruling Jubilee Party to capture the seat overwhelmingly.
The MP in early March led a delegation of leaders from Wajir North to State House and he was received by President Kenyatta, less than 24 hours after the head of state had received MPs Adan Keynan Wehliye (Eldas) and Mohamed Ibrahim Elmi (Tarbaj) who had defected from ODM to Jubilee Party.
Mr Saney, who is now campaigning under the slogal of “Jubillee Brigade” in Wajir North, has launched all manner of campaign wits in a door to door encounter capitalizing on his humour and vocal oratorical skills. He is currently campaigning on his development truck record over the last four and half years he has utilized his CDF kitty for the benefit of the electorate.
A supporter of the MP who spoke to this website said Mr Saney had made a legacy in the development of the constituency. He said one of his biggest achievement is creation and initiating development in the new Korindile District and also founding many new locations and divisions within Wajir North Constituency.
Besides, the MP has made unmatchable development in sectors of water, education and infrastructure through improving major and feeder roads. Mr Saney before joining politics in 2013 had spent most of his time working in the NGO world which enabled him to acquaint himself in writing international project proposals seeking for donor funds.
In his Jubilee Party campaign agenda, the MP is allied to the party’s gubernatorial candidate Ambassador Mohammed Abdi and Senator Hopeful Dr Abdullahi Kabreta as well as all other ruling party’s candidates. He is also campaign under the platform that the last time President Kenyatta visited the County, the MP was among those who threw weight behind the President’s re-election bid.
“When I first ventured in politics during the 2013 general elections, I was new in the game, but now I have matured and able to sell my candidature well among my Ajuran clan as well as other Jubilee Party candidates”, he told Kenya Free Press on phone.
During last general elections, Mr Saney contested for Wajir North seat against current senatorial candidate Abdullahi Kabreta, who has the sole endorsement of the Ajuran clan and whom he therefore supports for the senate seat. Being in the same party means Mr Saney and Dr Kabreta have common goals in the election.
A famous known national contractor has also supported Mr Saney’s re-election bid saying the legislator is above tribal politics and has changed the image of Wajir North constituency.
