The race for the Machakos women representative has become more crowded, with senator Johnstone Muthama's wife Agnes taking the Jubilee Party ticket and incumbent Dr Susan Musyoka gunning for it as an independent candidate after losing the Wiper Party nomination to Ms Joyce Kamene Kasimbi.
Others in the race are Maendeleo ya Wanawake Machakos County chairlady Ms Francisca Mutinda, who is running on Governor Alfred Mutua’s Maendeleo Chap Chap (MCC) and the wife of former marathoner Jane Cosmas Ndeti who is flying Chama Cha Uzalendo (CCU) ticket.
Ms Muthama's campaign portraits which have been circulating on social media networks in the last two days, receiving adulation and scorn in equal measure. “She is trying to stir waters in the county. But people are reading more from her candidature”, said a Facebook commenter in reaction to a post announcing her candidature.
On her part, Dr Musyoka sent an SMS to her supporters this morning which said in part “Good morning team. We are on the race for Women Representative seat on an independent ticket”.
The four aspirants drawn from different sub counties will square it out during the August polls, and at this moment Dr Musyoka, Ms Ndeti and Ms Mutinda are the front-runners.
