A 23-year-old was lynched by members of the public at Kinungi trading centre in Naivasha on Wednesday morning, hours after he reportedly killed a 14-year-old boy.
Naivasha OCPD Titus Munyoki, who supervised the collection of the bodies to the local mortuary, said police are investigating the incident that has caused tension in the area.
Local residents reported that the man, a notorious criminal, had confronted the boy on Tuesday evening demanding Sh20 he wanted to spend on illicit liquor, chang’aa.
When the boy responded that he didn’t have the money, the man hit him severally with a rungu, wooden club. The boy fell down unconscious, the man strangled him, hid the corpse in a nearby maize field and then escaped.
But the man was not as lucky as he assumed; a little boy, friend of the victim, witnessed the altercation and all events up to the man’s escape. When the slain boy’s corpse was discovered on Wednesday morning, the eyewitness reported what he had witnessed to the villagers, who immediately launched a manhunt for the suspected killer.
