NASA presidential candidate Kalonzo Musyoka today received Chama Cha Uzalendo leader and Machakos gubernatorial candidate Wavinya Ndeti into his Wiper Party as he solidifies his support in Lower Eastern region. The two signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) similar to the one Mr Musyoka had signed with Makueni governor Prof Kibwana who joined Wiper, but left his Muungano Party intact.
Mr Musyoka has struck a political deal to partner with five small parties in Lower Eastern region (Machakos, Kitui and Makueni counties) including Prof. Kibwana's Muungano Party, Charity Ngilu's NARC, John Mutua Katuku's Peoples Trust Party and Ms Ndeti's CCU. Only Ms Ngilu was absent today as Ms Ndeti officially joined Wiper.
Sources privy to the MoU confirmed that Ms Ndeti is Wiper’s gubernatorial candidate as was agreed with Prof Kibwana. And Mr Musyoka also said Ms Ndeti would be the Wiper candidate for Machakos governor while her running mate would be party deputy secretary general and member of the East Africa Legislative (EALA) Peter Mutuku Mathuki.
“The MoU which Mr Musyoka endorsed with Secretary General Hassan Omar on Wiper side while Ms Ndeti signed with CCU Secretary General Phillipe Saja says she (Ms Ndeti) will be Wiper candidate for Machakos governor”, said a source who knows the contents of the document.
That means that the fate of Machakos Deputy Governor Bernard Kiala, who has been on full throttle campaigning for the post on a Wiper ticket, has been sealed. Mr Kiala is supported by Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama.
This afternoon, Ms Ndeti in a post on her Facebook page said “I have officially joined Wiper Party to vie for Machakos Governor on Wiper ticket. CCU is still firm and we shall field candidates across the country for various elective positions.
"I thank my supporters, CCU Party members and the people of Machakos County for releasing me to join WDM-K. I assure you that I will remain committed to ensuring that our people get better service delivery, transformational leadership and real change”.
Seemingly unaware of the contents of the MoU, Mr Kiala released a press statement welcoming Ms Ndeti to Wiper and said was read to face at the party primaries. “I take this early opportunity to express my delight in the news that Hon. Wavinya Ndeti has finally joined the Wiper Democratic Movement Party.
"I am confident that other members of the party in Machakos share this delight. We welcome Hon. Ndeti to the party without conditions or reservations. Our party is best suited to pursue aspirations of people in the Lower Eastern region and Kenya at large. She has been long overdue to join us.
“Our Wiper Party is more popular than CCU, with more elaborate governance structures. I trust that she is ready to subject herself to our primaries which are a few weeks away. I am not party to negotiations arriving at a deal between her and her stated running mate.
"Hon. Ndeti is very welcome to procedurally seek the Wiper ticket for the political seat of her choice. I am ready for her to join me in facing Machakos Citizens who will democratically make the decision of who their Wiper Candidate, and ultimately their Governor will be after August 8th".
