Khalwale, Omar pull out of governor races, to defend seats

Kisumu senator Anyang Nyongo is expected to follow suit early in the new year and drop his gubernatorial ambitions according to well-placed sources at the CORD secretariat. The senators have faced an uphill task running against the governors in their respective counties.

CORD senators Bonny Khalwale (Kakamega) and Hassan Omar (Mombasa) have dropped their ambitions for governorship positions in the coming elections. The two leaders have indicated to the CORD principals Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka that they will support the current governors, Wycliffe Oparanya and Hassan Joho respectively.

In addition, according to well-placed sources, Kisumu senator Anyang Nyongo is expected to follow suit early in the new year and drop his gubernatorial ambitions. According to multiple sources at the CORD secretariat, many of the CORD senators who had declared their interest in governor's positions will rescind their campaigns and defend their current seats.

Senators from across the political divide have been facing an uphill task running against the governors in their respective counties, following growing backlash from voters.
