KANU, PDR agrees on power-sharing deal, launch joint campaigns

The former ruling Party KANU and Party of Development and Reforms (PDR) are campaigning jointly after agreeing on a power-sharing deal in Wajir County. This has put a strong fight for the seats of Governor, Senator and Women Representative with other candidates representing other parties.

Campaigning under the slogan 'Team fresh' has Ahmed Muhumed, (Governor), Abdihafid (gubernatorial running mate), Fatuma Gedi (Women Representative and Senate hopeful Mohamed Abikar.

Mr Abikar who is the brain behind the two parties joining force to campaign together said the group has worked out workable governance structure to ensure that the County government funds are utilized to the last coin by ensuring that all the elected leaders play their role as mandated by the constitution.

"We have agreed to ensure the governor and his deputy will do their work of administration in an accountable manner, while the Senator and women representative to do their oversight role to ensure that transparency and accountability are effective", he said on phone.

Mr Abikar who is representing KANU in the equation has also coined his personal slogan "give me your vote and I will protect your money" and says the group is confident of winnig

The aspirant also submitted his profile to Kenya Free Press which indicates he is a lawyer by profession and at the same time a businessman while, he has previously played the watchdog role in the Wajir County Government through an NGO, he runs-Wajir Anti-Corruption Justice Forum (WAJUF). He is the CEO of WAJUF.

He is not new in politics having contested two times for Wajir West Parliamentary seat, in the years of 2002 and 2007 and since then is a well known politician with activists' experience.

His manifesto, he says promises to guard the County funds adding "I will support the Wajir people by lobbying for funds from National government"

Mr Abikar, at the same time projects that the joint venture between KANU and PDR will ensure that devolution is working in mashinani (grassroots) level. thereby creating employment for youths, majority being jobless. The agenda of 'Team fresh" is supporting people with disability, he added.

Mr Abikar encouraged Wajir electorate to elect leaders with integrity and unquestionable background beside tribal politics. He also pouched for a peaceful election devoid of perennial clan wars in the County.

Mr Daud Mohamed Ali who is a personal aid and political adviser of Mr Abikar supported the 'marriage' between KANU and PDR predicting that it would turn tables against other candidates also vying for the same seats. Mr Daud who is also a businessman and political scientists praised the leadership of Mr Abikar saying he would unify the sub  clans in the County of elected the next Senator after the August 8 General elections.

Mr Daud confirmed that Mr Abikar is a strong leader with leadership skills stating that he is ready to invest on safeguarding the funds of Wajir people. Mr Daud also threw weight behind the PDR line-up saying 'Team fresh' is making a political 'tsunami' in the County if the mammoth rallies they are addressing is anything to go by. The team held a successful rally in Wajir North where by a show of hands, the excited crowd overwhelmingly supported the team and assured them of their votes.
