Machakos governor Dr Alfred Mutua has today announced that he would contest for the presidency in 2022 when he released his manifesto as he seeks re-election for the second and final term in office.

In the manifesto, Dr Mutua wants to continue implementing the projects he initiated after winning the seat in 2013. Health is his first priority and he promises to improve health facilities for betterment of Machakos County. He outlined the achievement so far in the sector which include the purchase of 80 ambulances to serve Machakos hospitals as well as the importation machines for testing cancer.

Water is another priority in Dr Mutua’s manifesto and he promised to provide citizens with clean and safe water for domestic and irrigation.

He also said his attention will be on infrastructure where he promised to build Machakos International Airport with modern equipments. The governor further pledged to make sure every road in Machakos is tarmacked.

He promised to maintain the rankings where Machakos has been rated the top county in its performance among the fourty seven counties for the past four years despite the accusations that his administration has embezzled public funds and misused other county resources.

The Leader of Maendeleo Chap Chap (MCC) has in the past appeared before the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Senate Public Accounts and Investment Committee to answer questions about graft cases in his administration according to queries raised by the Auditor General’s annual reports.

However, has Dr Mutua bragged and defended his performance in county developments for the past four years he has been in the office.

On his ambition to vie for the top seat of the land, Dr Mutua said I know with God that it is possible though my enemies do not like it”.

Dr Mutua asked people to forgive him if he had wronged them and pleaded to them to re-elect him saying that his manifesto is not only for Machakos County but it can be copied for the whole nation.

Dr Mutua is facing former Kathiani MP Ms Wavinya Ndeti of Wiper ticket, his Deputy turned rival Bernard Muia Kiala (Independent) and Jubilee’s Lemi Muia.
