Deputy President William Ruto has denied reports attributed to NASA running mate Kalonzo Musyoka that he previously worked with businessman Jimmy Wanjigi. He said he did not have a close relationship with the said businessman.
Speaking when he appeared before Citizen TV Sunday Game Plan programme, Ruto said it’s not true that he had a close relationship with Jimmy Wanjigi and as a result arranged a meeting between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Kalonzo.
However the DP Ruto said that during their interaction, the former Vice President asked President Uhuru and him to allow Kalonzo contest the Presidency since he expected the two to serve a jail term of 10 years due to the case that was facing them at the International Criminal Court (ICC). He also clarified that they have never discussed Kalonzo being the flag bearer.
Defending the Jubilee government DP Ruto said that the government has done enough to fight corruption saying that it is not the duty of the President to make a judgment or to jail the people engaged in corruption. He also said that claims that he was corrupt have not been proven. However noted NASA coalition is being funded by people with dirty hands and they should explain to the public the corruption cartels involving their funders.
Ruto at the same time denied claims by Meru Governor Peter Munya that he was using Jubilee gubernatorial candidate and Meru Senator Kiraitu Murungi to frustrate him before the 2022 General Elections when he could contest the presidency if President Kenyatta wins the August 8 polls.
Munya had claimed that DP Ruto is a problem to President Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election bid together with Kiraitu Murungi who cannot help him in campaigning. The former chairman of the council of Governors spoke during a rally in Meru for his reelection.
