A video in which Nairobi gubernatorial candidate Margaret Wanjiru bribing voters at the Muthurwa Market has gone viral online, sparking furore from Kenyans who have demanded action on the incident by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission. Bribery of voters is prohibited by the Elections Act and the Penal Code and IEBC is empowered to take the lead in campaigning against the vice.
The aspirant held several meetings in Eastlands and Nairobi West on Thursday and Friday, and the video trending on social media platforms captured her dishing out notes (believed to be in denominations of Sh50) to rally-goers who surge forward to her convoy in the rally.
