The Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) this week reiterated its commitment to supporting the Kenya National Rally Championship as the 2017 Guru Nanak Rally gets underway this weekend.
Speaking during the rally launch in Nairobi, KCB head of customer experience Job Njiru says it’s a dream come true for the rallying fraternity in Kenya with immense growth of the sport as a result of the banks sponsorship over the years.
“As KCB Group, we have relentlessly continued to hold the sport high to the admiration of international competitors as we seek to return to the World Rally Championship. KCB Bank is the official banking partner for Kenya Motor Sport Federation as we gear up for the weekend’s event”, said Njiru.
At least 34 drivers are expected to square it out during the 2017 Guru Nanak Rally scheduled for Sunday October 1. The Rally will be flagged off outside Buffalo Mall before the drivers head to the vast Nakuru County for the final stages in Aberdare and Nyati stages.
“We have seen heightened interest among the drivers for this round. The Guru Nanak Rally is one of the most competitive and popular events in the calendar of motorsport in Kenya and as a bank we are enthusiastic in supporting motor sports in the country,” Njiru said.
The 7th round of the KNRC will see some of the contenders fight for top honours as the series gets to the home-stretch. Finland’s ace Tapio Laukannen, Ian Duncan and Manvir Bryan are some of the top contenders for the podium finish.
Local drivers Chatthe, Baldev Chagger, Karan Patel and Onkai Rai will offer stiff competition to the trio as the battle for the podium finish gets underway with all the drivers focusing on racking up major points before the season comes to a close.
Hundreds of spectators are also expected to gather at the ceremonial start venue to wave off competitors outside the Buffalo Mall as well as at the spectator stages at Soysambu and Aberdare Hills.
The rally outing presents a test of nerves that will stretch the endurance of the drivers who will be aiming for the podium finish. The epic race will be characterized by undulating hilly terrain with wet surfaces with a combination of speed, skill and vehicle performance determining who will take the bragging rights in the fabulous event.
