“The 28-year old striker, Diego Costa does not feature in my plans ahead of 2017-18 premier league season…”the Blues boss has said. This move will see the 20-goal scorer of the just-ended season choose a club of his preference.

A word has it that the Blues’ top scorer has sustainably expressed his desires to return to his former club, Atletico Madrid. In fact, the player in question here has been warding off narratives linking him to a move to one of the China’s ‘elite’ soccer clubs.

Costa has been quoted by a section of the media as flatly dismissing allegations that, like his former club mate Oscar [Brazilian international], he’s eyeing for Chinese football clubs that are characterized with fat pay. Diego Costa has two years contract left with Chelsea FC.

Queried on whether he may yet have future in West London, Costa told AS: “Things don’t work in that way. The fight for the place has to be fair to stay and fight, but the fight isn’t fair and I have to leave.

“I have a two-year contract with Chelsea, they have to decide.

“If they sell me, I will look for the best choice. Atletico is among them. It wouldn’t mean not playing. They can loan me out to any team in Spain, Brazil or wherever, but I have to play. Everyone knows that I have a lot of affection for them.”

In summary, we don’t need a prophet’s eye to see that Costa’s desires and aspirations are centered on his erstwhile club, Atletico Madrid.
