Simon Kibai wins Mens 10,000M at Safaricom National Deaf Championships

The athletes who hails from Kisii County was emerged string in a field that saw Roselinda Okumu from Kakamega County get the second place with a time of 43:52::9 to also qualify in the ‘B’ standard.

The Safaricom National Deaf Athletics Championships saw Simon Kibai from Uasin Ngishu County win the 10,000 meter men deaf athletics title held at the Kipchoge Keino Stadium.

Triple champion Kibai clocked at time of 30:24:3 to qualify for the men Deaflympics Games to be held in Turkey later in the year. In second place was Peter Toroitich from Turkana County with a time of 30: 46:2 seconds to book a place to represent the country in the international games.

Daniel Kiptum from Uasin Ngishu closed the top three qualifiers in the ‘A’ standard with time of 31:16:1.

  2. Peter Toroitich – 30:46:2
  3. Daniel Kiptum – 31:16:1

In the ladies 10,000-meter race, the ever fit Juster Kwamesa recorded a ‘B’ standard qualifying time of 43:34:3 to book a place in the team that will represent the country in the Deaflympics Games. The athletes who hails from Kisii County was emerged string in a field that saw Roselinda Okumu from Kakamega County get the second place with a time of 43:52::9 to also qualify in the ‘B’ standard.

  2. Roseline Okumu – 43:52.9

In the 400 meter men hurdles finals, Saulo Mwanthi from Nairobi County posted a time of 58:2 seconds to qualify with a ‘B’ standard. Dennis Kiprop from Nandi County was in second position with a time of 58.9 to also qualify in the ‘B’ standard.

  2. Dennis Kiprop – 58.9

In the women 400 meter hurdles race finals Linet Nanjala from Nairobi County was the only qualifier in the ‘B’ standard with a time of 71.3.
