Kenyans excel in Doha Diamond League meet

Beatrice Chepkoech was second in 9:01.57, while Kenyan-turned Bahraini Ruth Jebet was third after posting 9:01.99. Under 20 World record holder Celiphine Chepteek finished fourth in 9:05.70.

Hyvin Kiyeng and Elijah Manangoi were among the Kenyan athletes who excelled in the IAAF Doha Diamond League athletics meet on Friday night. Kiyeng, a Beijing 2015 World Championship steeplechase champion and Rio Olympics silver medallist, led a Kenya's 1, 2 victory in the women's 3000m steepelchase, winning the race in 9:00.12.

Beatrice Chepkoech was second in 9:01.57, while Kenyan-turned Bahraini Ruth Jebet was third after posting 9:01.99. Under 20 World record holder Celiphine Chepteek finished fourth in 9:05.70.

In the men's 1500m race, Elijah Manangoi, a 2015 World Championships silver medallist, led a Kenyan clean sweep which saw the East Africans clinched the six top positions. He won in 3:31.90. Silas Kiplagat, a 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games silver medallist was second in 3:32.23, while Bethwel Birgen settled for third place, posting 3:32.27.

Vincent Kibet, Timothy Cheruiyot and Robert Biwott, finished fourth fifth and sixth respectively in 3:32.66, 3:32.87 and 3:34.30 respectively.

Rio Olympics (2016) 800m bronze medallist Margaret Nyairera was second in the women's 800 m in 1:57.03, behind winner Caster Semenya of South Africa, who posted  1:56.61.  African and Commonwealth Games champion and ex-World champion, Eunice Sum, was third in 1:58.76 in the two-lap race.
