Harambee Stars coach Stanley Okumbi has dropped defenders Humphrey Mieno and Maurice Ojwang from the team that will face Uganda and DR Congo in international friendlies this week. Also dropped are strikers Jeremiah Wanjala of Kakamega Homeboyz, Vincent Oburu and Eric Ouma who turns out for Georgia's Kolkheti FC.
An ankle injury ruled Mieno, a defender at Kenyan Premier League side Tusker FC, out of the friendlies, while Ojwang, Wanjala and Oburu apparently failed to impress the coach. For Mieno, who scored a goal against Hull City in the recent SportsPesa All Stars match against the English Premier League side in London, the injury is a major disappointment. SportsPesa All Stars, a team comprising players drawn from the SportPesa Premier League, lost 1-2 in the friendly tie.
Harambee Stars, the Kenya senior national men's team is gearing up for international friendly matches against Uganda and DR Congo at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos. Stars take on Uganda Thursday afternoon before meeting DR Congo on Sunday at the same venue. Harambee Stars are using the matches to gear up for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sierra Leone in June.
A relatively strong Harambee Stars, boasting the services of big names, among them foreign-based professionals- midfielder Victor Wanyama (Tottenham Hotspurs, England) and striker Micheal Lungza (Guizhou Zhicheng, China) are gearing up for the ties. Among other foreign legion called up are defenders Abu Omar (Sofia Slava, Bulgaria) and Brian Mandela (Maritzburg, South Africa).
