Shillings 31m prize money up for grabs at Kampala World Cross

There is also a total prize pool of Sh 3,090,000 on offer for the inaugural relay race, with Sh 1,236,000 earmarked for the winning team.

A total of Sh 31,930,000 in prize money will be awarded by the IAAF to the leading runners in the senior races at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships Kampala 2017 on Sunday 26 March. Winners of the individual men's and women's races will each earn Sh 3,090,000, with money paid out to the top six finishers, the IAAF said Tuesday.

In total, US$140,000 is on offer in the two senior races. In the team contest in both senior races, there is another prize pool of Sh14,420,000, with going to the winning team, with prizes awarded to sixth place in both races, where the pay out by the IAAF is Sh 412,000. There is also a total prize pool of Sh 3,090,000 on offer for the inaugural relay race, with Sh 1,236,000 earmarked for the winning team. 

Here, the first four teams across the line will be awarded prize money. No prize money paid for the junior races. The payment of prize money in the senior races is dependent upon the athletes clearing the usual anti-doping procedures. The Kenyan team to the annual event is gearing up for the annual event at the Kigari Teachers Training College, Embu.
