Shadrack Maluki, hitherto Kenya Judo Association secretary-General, was Saturday elected chairman of the association. Mr Maluki captured the seat unopposed after incumbent Stephen Arap Soi, opted out, citing personal reasons. The peaceful election was conducted by the Kenya National Sports Council member Charles Nyaberi at the council's boardroom at the Nyayo National Stadium.
Others elected to serve in the executive committee were vice-chairman Duncan Chemiryo, secretary-general Johnson Mwadime, assistant secretary Doreen Okoth, treasurer David Busolo, assistant treasurer Mike Tole, sports director Joseph Momanyi, coaching/education director Joseph Mburu, referee director Sammy Sang and publicity director Agnes Chepchirchir.
In his acceptance speech chairman Maluki pledged to put in place a robust governance structure, develop a blueprint, revamp and spread the
sport and focus on Tokyo 2020. "The Journey to Tokyo 2020 (2020 Tokyo Olympics) begins now, I will work with my team and all supporters of Judo to take the sport to the next level', he said.
