Kisumu to revive community stadia, promote all sports

The Kisumu County Government has allocated Sh27 million in the 2016/17 financial year budget for the revival of community stadia.

The Kisumu County Government has allocated Sh27 million in the 2016/17 financial year budget for the revival of community stadia.

The stadia earmarked for construction or renovation include Ogada Stadium in Kisumu North, which will get Sh4 million, Muhoroni Stadium (in Koru/Muhoroni ward), and Jomo Kenyatta Sport Grounds and Nanga Stadium in Nyalenda A, both of which will get Sh3 million. The county also budgeted Sh3 million for the development of a sports academy in Nyangoma Masogo ward.

These proposed expenditures are contained in a budget that is currently undergoing participation as required in the Public Financial Management Act.

The county also plans to spend Sh2 million on county club championship and Sh200,000 each women soccer development, the development of sports for disabled persons and county athletics championship.Nyangoma Masogo will also benefit from a Sh6 million project for the development of a rehabilitation centre for alcoholics.
In addition, the budget recommends the allocation of Sh10 million towards increasing participation by the youths in various sports disciplines and training of referees and coaches in various sports.
