The Kajiado county government has launched a programme to eradicate malnutrition among newborn children and lactating mothers.
The county has set aside Sh8.5 million towards the programme, under which it will partner with non-governmental organizations to promote proper feeding for newborns and mothers.
Deputy Governor Paul Ntiati launched the programme at Kajiado Referral Hospital on Thursday, accompanied by county executive committee member for Health Gladys Marima and County nutrition officer Jane Nasinkoi.
“Drought in the area has also been an impediment in fighting malnutrition in children under the age of five and mothers at the reproductive stage,” said Ntitati.
The deputy governor said the county government has sent medical personnel to all the five sub-county hospitals to deliver services as required and all expectant women should give birth in hospitals.
