Industrialist Chris Kirubi has asked universities to give students education that is relevant and produce graduates with quality grades who can effectively compete in the job market. Addressing graduands and guests at the first graduation ceremony at Machakos University Mr Kirubi asked the Chancellor Mr James Mworia Mwirigi to ensure the graduates from this university are well equipped to compete fairly in the job market.
"You should not just produce a graduate for the sake of being called a graduate but end up staying at home without a proper job, one should be able to get a job for which he studied," said Mr Kirubi, who appealed to the administration to advice the students before they take up any courses because most end up jobless as the job market is flooded.
The Chancellor who was also awarded a Honorary Degree as a Doctor of Business, assured Chris Kirubi and the graduants that Machakos will produce world class graduates where employers will be queuing to employ them. Mr Mwirigi also asked the graduates to be committed to what they set to do with integrity to emerge the best in the market.
The function was also attended by Machakos Women Rep, Dr.Susan Musyoka, Machakos MP Victor Munyaka and Mavoko Mp aspirant Kalembe Ndile among other guests. Dr Munyaka assured the Vice Chancellor his commitment to work with the university to ensure they get the best services especially in the area of housing the students. "The students need hostels and we are going to work with the university to ensure students are housed in the university," he said.
