Dr Kituku has been on the frontline in the promotion of youth talent in terms of football and other games, by organizing tournaments all over the sub county, ensuring such teams have uniforms and balls as well as sponsoring athletes to participate in nationwide competitions.

The Kabogo/Waititu war that reached its climax with the governorship nomination, but its skirmishes are far from over. After initially conceding defeat, the governor has announced today that he is considering his political options and cannot rule out running as an independent candidate.

Despite such remarkable progress, the primaries were marked by violence in over ten counties. A number of reported disputes were not well resolved, resulting in an unprecedented number of aspirants defecting from their parties to run as independent candidates.

Four of the five were connected in one way or the other to the coup attempt. NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga was a suspected coup plotter who was detained for the suspected crime. In 2006, 24 years after the events, Mr Odinga publicly confessed his role in the failed coup.

Like in 2007, all incumbents have lost except for Kanini Kega of Kieni. Gachagua Rigathi, brother to recently-departed Nyeri governor Nderitu Gachagua, beat the current member of parliament Peter Weru while political activist Wambugu Ngunijiri beat the incumbent Esther Murugi in Nyeri Town.

The President said the Government has streamlined the registration and management of foreign employment agencies. “I strongly urge every Kenyan going abroad, to use the approved agencies. You should also make sure that you register at the Kenyan Embassy serving the foreign country you are in”.

COTU boss Francis Atwoli commended President Kenyatta and his Deputy for ensuring free and fair nominations of their Jubilee Party saying peaceful and transparent nominations are a precursor of peaceful general elections. Mr Atwoli wished President Kenyatta success in the coming election.

While the two politicians are expected to present to Nairobians a catalogue of promises on transforming the city, they should focus on some of the basic problems the city residents face, most of which have grown worse under Dr Kidero.

Mr Musyoka has in recent past held meetings with leaders of small political parties from Ukambani which resulted in his signing MoUs with them. First was Makueni governor Prof Kivutha Kibwana who signed an MoU with Wiper, through which he would seek reelection.

Mr Kithae also announced that the society’s share capital had grown from Sh6,857,958 in 2013 to Sh13,201,765 in 2016. “The members are encouraged to save more even when they have been given loans. Our capacity to give out more loans depends on the size of the members deposits”.

Instead of campaigning in Jubilee, he spent his energies on attacking Governor Kidero by highlighting how Nairobi had collapsed due to the bad leadership and unfulfilled promises. It was a general election pose that assumed he already had the Jubilee ticket in his pocket.

We reported the news at a time the mainstream media believed that Mr Odinga was out of contention for the position, speculating that Mr Kalonzo would run with his ANC counterpart Musalia Mudavadi with either of the two as the presidential contender.

This is exactly what happened in Mlango Kubwa last month when a Technical University of Kenya student was killed in the crossfire between Flying Squad officers and armed thugs. Karani lost his life while his classmate was badly wounded.
