The guard became the thief this morning, literally, when Tharaka Nithi deputy governor Eliud Mureithi was robbed at gunpoint by his official bodyguard. The official, who had just received Sh3.5 from a land sale, lost the whole sum at one of the safest places: at his home near Kinoru stadium in Meru Town.

Police reports indicated that Mureithi had just arrived home after selling a piece of land at Kathwana in Tharaka Nithi when his bodyguard snatched the bag which had the money and vanished. Constable Josphat Kipyegon, who is attached to the Administration Police Marimanti Camp, had threatened to shoot Mr Mureithi as he was resisting to hand over the bag.

Imenti North OCPD Sammy Kosgey said the police are pursuing the suspect who is at large. “Investigations have commenced. We are pursuing the suspect and hereby appeal to the public to give us any information that can lead to his arrest," he said.
