The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has been forced to cancel journalist David Makali's contract for communication consultancy services.

IEBC and Makali had denied for weeks that the journalist was providing consultancy services to the commission while he at the same time was advising ODM rebel politicians.

A number of ODM-allied bloggers used Makali's engagement by IEBC as further evidence of the commission's bias against the opposition coalition, since the journalist has publicly flaunted his association with ODM rebels who have since announced their defection to the governing coalition.

A statement from IEBC released early today stated: "Mr David Makali, who has been offering consultancy services to IEBC as a communication adviser, has terminated his engagement with the commission" following "a mutual agreement."

Makali has appeared many times in the recent past at political events with ODM rebels Ababu Namwamba and Paul Otuoma. Last weekend, he announced his plan to contest the Bungoma senatorial seat on the Jubilee-affiliated party being formed by the ODM rebels.
