Baby girl dead for two days 'resurrects', giving joy to Kitui village in mourning

All arrangements for the burial were almost complete when the baby was heard crying from a ‘temporary mortuary’ within the home compound. A grave had already been dug and a burial permit obtained from the office of the local Chief with a pastor invited to lead the burial ceremony.

Residents of Kiomo Village in Mwingi, Kitui County, saw what they described as a miracle. Their preparations to bury a two-month old girl turned to happiness on Thursday when the girl mysteriously came back to life.

All arrangements for the burial were almost complete when the baby was heard crying from a ‘temporary mortuary’ within the home compound. A grave had already been dug and a burial permit obtained from the office of the local Chief with a pastor invited to lead the burial ceremony.

Residents were however filled with surprise when the baby, who had died two days ago according to her mother Elizabeth Masaa Munywoki, "resurrected". Mourning turned to celebration and the mother could not hold her happiness after her little angel proved that the time for her to leave this earth had not come.

The villagers were shocked a few days later when the baby was heard crying from the ‘temporary mortuary’ where she had been kept awaiting arrangements for her burial. The baby was rescued but she showed signs of weakness, forcing the family members to take her to Muumbuni private hospital for medication and extensive care.

The funeral arrangements had commenced on Tuesday when Ms Munywoki went to check after the girl where she was sleeping, only to find her out of breath. She informed other family members who later mobilized the villagers to help mourn for the un- timely passing of the little angel.
