Why Kalonzo Musyoka was justified to climb bishop's back

There are many people amongst us who are out to undermine the authority of bishops and the obligation of all of us to follow their teachings. This is a recipe for spiritual chaos.

The photo that went viral on social media.

CORD co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka quite literally broke social media on Sunday with a picture showing him climbing the back of a clergyman, Bishop Daniel Idatura during a church service at Jesus Soul Ministry in Changamwe, Mombasa, in order to get God’s blessings for his upcoming presidential contest.

Kenyans in their usual fashion have decided to give the action a humorous twist by posting photos online mimicking Mr Musyoka’s gesture under the hashtag #kalonzochallenge. Implicitly, the message is that Mr Musyoka was wrong to do what he did - following the Bishop's command. Many are the social media users who have written derisive comments about this specific bishop but also preachers generally, highlighting those who have performed some supposed 'wayward' acts.

For me, what Mr Musyoka did is perfectly in order. He obeyed the command of a clergyman who carried the word of God, in God's own house no less. While there obviously are ‘wayward’ priests out there who have misled their flock, I believe the rampant criticism of priests by some people is part of the devil’s work. Such people are out to undermine the authority of bishops and the obligation of all of us to follow their teachings - a recipe for spiritual chaos.
