The Majority Leader of Wajir County Assembly, Mohamud Gabane Noor, represents the voice of the County governor Ambassador Mohamed Abdi. The election of the majority leader crowns the governor's control of the Assembly where the ruling Jubilee Party and its affiliates control the house.
Mohamud also made history by being among the two MCAs to recapture their seats during the August 8 elections. He represents Sarman Ward, which he first won in 2013. He was sponsored by the Party for Development and Reforms (PDR) after being identified as the right hand man for Governor Abdi during the 2017 general elections when the incumbent governor Ahmed Abdullahi lost to Ambassador Abdi.
With Ambassador's win against Abdullahi during the recent elections, his team is controlling both the county assembly and the executive. Mr Mohamud was unanimously elected by the Jubilee Party elected and nominated MCAs and their allies in the assembly, who include those from his own PDR party.
An eloquent speaker, Mohamud would well articulate county assembly matters through the standing orders and the Constitution of Kenya 2010. He has past experience having served in the last assembly which pioneered the era of devolution created by the 2010 constitution and therefore was seen as the right candidate for the seat.
Under his leadership many motions were successfully passed including the approval of the County CECs and for drought mitigation. In his position, Mohamud will now have an extended power to push for the interests of his electorate while serving as the Leader of Majority in the county assembly.
The majority leader.
Mr Mohamud's education will not let him down with a degree in business administration from Kenya Methodist University. He first went to Dambas Primary School and joined Sankuri Secondary School before later joining Methodist University. He also has other rich education credentials.
On job experience he worked with Kenya Bureau of Statistics from 2004-2005. He later worked in transport sector where was managing Gateway Bus Service from 2005-2008. He also worked with Save the Children, an international organization from 2009-2012.
On legislative plans, he has promised the public that all motions and bills that will be sponsored through him will serve their interests and will be tailored for the good impact to the people of Wajir County. He has assured that the County Assembly will not fail its people promising to respect his counterpart serving in the position of the Leader of Minority Party.
He said through the wise leadership of Governor Abdi, whom he termed 'as the governor of the people', Wajir will be transformed for the best. He applauds the governor for having considered tribal balance, gender balance and people with disability and minority groups when he presented the nominees for CEC positions.
The governor's administration, he said, will be better compared to the previous regime. He said the governor respects the Assembly's oversight role and promised to work with him. He said with Jubilee Party forming the majority in the Assembly will marshal all their energies towards campaigning for the reelection of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Finally he appealed to the people of Wajir County to maintain peace and pray to God to bless them with rains that will end the current drought that has negatively impacted on them and their livestock.
