A new MP from Kisii County promises to create a name for himself with his eloquence and clear articulation of issues. South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro, who led four Nyanza legislators at a press conference in Nairobi this afternoon, spoke passionately about issues affecting Kenyans and the Kisii community.
"We want to put the Jubilee Party on notice that the Gusii community values its own and the attack on Justice Maraga is an attack on the community," said the MP, who read a statement on behalf of his colleagues condemning President Uhuru Kenyatta's acerbic attacks on Chief Justice David Maraga and four other Supreme Court judges who nullified the August 8 presidential election.
The MP said the President was not acting like a winner, and wondered "why the President is acting wild" if he indeed won the election, since the win would be reconfirmed within by the new election. “Right Honorable Raila Odinga was gracious and accepted the verdict of the court and it is the expectation that President Kenyatta does the same because as Senator Orengo said, the court is as wise today as it was in 2013," he said.
"May we remind President Kenyatta that his presidency in 2013 was upheld by the same court and it is unfortunate that he can now lead the chorus in hurling insults at the court, to the extent of referring the judges as 'crooks' is not just absurd but unfortunate coming from the Head of State who is supposed to portray the image of the symbol of unity”, he said.
Those accompanying Osoro at the press conference included MPs Janet Ongera (Kisii women representative), Sen. Beatrice Kwamboka (Nominated ODM), Jared Okelo (Nyando) and Samuel Atandi (Alego Usonga) and a number of MCAs from Kisii and Nyamira counties.
“It is sad that as the country celebrates this historic ruling the Jubilee Party leadership led by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto has led the chorus by a few disgruntled people in attacking the Chief Justice and other Judges of the Supreme Court. This must be condemned in the strongest terms possible”, the leaders said at a press conference at the PanaAfric Hotel.
A trained lawyer and successful businessman, Osoro is a member of the Kenya National Congress, on whose ticket he won the South Mugirango seat against an onslaught of candidates supported by ODM, which has been the dominant political party in the region, and ANC, Ford-Kenya and Jubilee Party.
