Airports Authority appoints Norwegian as CEO

Mr Andersen takes over from Yatich Kangungo who has been serving on an acting capacity as the MD from June 2015. This is after he took over from Lucy Mbugua was shown the door over an 11 million shilling bus leasing scam.

The Kenya Airports Authority board has appointed a Norwegian national, Jonny Andersen, as the parastatal’s new managing director and chief executive officer.

Mr Andersen takes over from Yatich Kangungo who has been serving on an acting capacity as the MD from June 2015. This is after he took over from Lucy Mbugua was shown the door over an 11 million shilling bus leasing scam.

Mr Andersen’s career spans over 21 years having served as the vice president and senior vice president for ground operations at Air Baltic in Latvia. He also served as the director for ground handling sales at Widroes Flyveselskap AS in Norway. In addition to that, he is a Fellow (FRAeS) at the Royal Aeronautical Society in the UK and an accredited instructor at the IATA (International Air Transport Association) Training and Development Institute in Switzerland.

During a press briefing to unveil the new CEO, KAA board chairman Julius Karangi exuded confidence in Mr Andersen, saying that his extensive experience will be instrumental in the development of the parastatal.

“Mr Andersen has wide knowledge and experience in the aviation industry, and specifically running airport hubs across the world. He is a good fit for KAA, even as the expansion and modernization of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and other aerodromes gains steam,” said the chairman.
