Pay television company StarTimes Monday announced the entry of the StarTimes digital television in the Kenyan market. One of the key features that stand out for the digital television sets is the ability to receive both satellite and terrestrial signals without connecting to an external set top box.

The new television product, already in the market, is designed to decode digital signals by itself thereby saving customers valuable resources which would have otherwise been utilized to acquire a separate  set top box. ''This is an install and watch product that's why we say StarTimes Digital TV is a real digital TV it does not require an external set top box to broadcast both satellite and terrestrial signals," said StarTimes Vice-President Mark Lisboa said during the launch ceremony in Nairobi.

Rolled out in three sizes-24, 36 and 40 inches, the television sets are retailing at Sh 18,999, 26,499 and 39,999 respectively. Lisboa re-affirmed the company's commitment to research and development with a view to introducing introducing affordable latest technology to the  market.

StartTimes, who have operated in Kenya for five years, said StarTimes Digital TV is also designed to save upto 50 percent power, allowing subscribers to enjoy better viewing experience with less living costs. StarTimes delivers more than 200 channels as well as free-to-air channels.
